No — you can rent a firearm and ammunition directly from Corsair Tactical Solutions. Just let us know in advance when you book so we can have the right equipment ready for you.

Do you instruct outside of Texas?

Accepted Answer

Yes! Steve Hopwood can provide instruction in all 50 states. However, Texas License to Carry (LTC) certification is only valid for the State of Texas and must be completed here.

Can you be booked for private classes or parties?

Absolutely. Corsair can provide training for private parties, private group meetings, corporate events, church safety teams, and any special training event. Contact Steve to discuss your needs.

What should I wear to a training class?

Accepted Answer

Wear comfortable, weather-appropriate clothing and closed-toe shoes (no sandals or open-toe shoes). Avoid low-cut tops — hot brass casings can find their way in. A hat with a brim is recommended for outdoor ranges. Eye and ear protection will be provided if you don't have your own.

Do you provide training prior to a certification class?

Yes. Students can call and book a private session before attending the LTC class. LTC students must have basic firearm handling experience. If you don't have experience yet, contact Corsair so a training plan can be created to help you succeed. This is a journey and we are here to assist.

Question 7

What do I need to bring to the Texas LTC class?

Accepted Answer

You'll need a valid government-issued photo ID, a semi-automatic handgun or revolver (.22 caliber minimum), 50 rounds of ammunition, and eye and ear protection. Firearm and ammo rental is available — just let us know when booking.

How long does it take to get my LTC after the class?

Accepted Answer

After passing the class, you submit your application to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) directly. Processing typically takes 2–6 weeks depending on DPS volume. Your instructor will walk you through the application process.

Can I take the Texas LTC class online?

Accepted Answer

Yes! The classroom portion of the Texas LTC can be completed online through our approved Online Texas LTC Assessment. You'll still need to complete the shooting proficiency portion in person at the range. The online option is perfect for busy schedules — complete the classroom work at your own pace, then schedule your range qualification.

What is the LTC shooting proficiency test?

The proficiency test consists of 50 rounds fired from a B-27 target at varying distances (3, 7, and 15 yards). You must score a minimum of 175 out of 250 points (70%) to pass. Our instructors will walk you through exactly what to expect and ensure you're well-prepared before test day.

I'm a complete beginner — is that okay?

Completely okay! Many of our students have never touched a firearm before. Our beginner courses are designed to be judgment-free, safe, and supportive. Steve will start with the absolute basics and make sure you feel comfortable before ever handling a firearm.

Do you offer women's only courses?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Corsair offers Women's Only courses designed to provide a comfortable, supportive environment for women new to firearms. Contact us to ask about scheduled women's classes or to set up a private session.

What security certifications do you offer?

Accepted Answer

Corsair offers Level II (Unarmed), Level III (Armed Security Officer), and Level IV (Bodyguard / Personal Protection Officer) certification courses meeting Texas DPS Private Security Bureau requirements. Contact us for current scheduling and pricing.

Do you teach NRA or USCCA curriculum courses?

Yes. Steve Hopwood is a certified NRA Instructor (Pistol Shooting Course) and USCCA Instructor (Concealed Carry Home Defense). Both NRA and USCCA course options are available — contact us for scheduling.

What is the difference between a private lesson and a group class?

Private lessons are 1-on-1 with Steve, fully customized to your goals, pace, and skill level. You get undivided attention and can focus on exactly what you want to learn. Group classes follow a set curriculum, cost less per person, and are great for social learning. Many students start with a private lesson and then join group classes with confidence.

Do I need to take a beginner class before the LTC?

It depends on your experience level. If you have never fired a handgun before, we strongly recommend taking our First Shots or Basic Handgun Skills class first. The LTC class assumes basic firearm handling knowledge. Not sure? Call us and we'll help you figure out the right path.

Is payment required to reserve my spot?

Accepted Answer

No payment is required upfront to reserve your spot. Payment is collected at the range on the day of your training session. This makes it easy to book without any financial risk.

What is your cancellation policy?

Students are required to cancel at least 48 hours in advance. If you cancel or need to reschedule, you will be placed in the next available class. There are no refunds — students will be scheduled for the next available session. See our full Policies page for details.
